Tuesday 19 December
Weather: Sunny , cold and windy
Snow: perfect pistes, 25 cms powder (heavily wind affected at altitude)
After the best part of 10 days of snow we decided to visit Le Tour for the first time this season. The lifts at Le Tour have been slow to open early season but we hoped more would open today. The Gondolas from Le Tour and Vallorcine, Autannes chair, Tete de Balme chair and the Plan des Reines poma opened providing access to the majority of the area
The pistes were in excellent condition everywhere. The snow cover is incredible and the pistes beautifuly groomed – very flattering
The chair to Tete de Balme was,as usual, freezing in a strong northeasterly wind . It also stopped incessantly driving us to the frontside of the mountain, Offpiste at higher elevations was heavily wind blown although we managed to find some good wind blown powder’
The best snow of the day was found off the Charamillon Gondola where the wind had been lighter. Three laps skiers right and left of the lift left both Penny and I happy to go home.
The conditions for Xmas look amazing by far the best since Xmas 2012. If you are arriving on holiday soon you will no doubt be delighted.
