I am one of those who has steadily criticised Compagnie de Mont Blanc for its continued failure to invest in the uplift in the Chamonix Valley. The majority of investment has centred around the Aguille de Midi due to its all year round popularity.
However the extension of the Chamonix Lift Pass to cover St Gervais, Megeve, Combloux and Les Contamines has been great for those who have access to transport
A quick trip down to St Gervais( 25 minutes in the car) accesses the Bettex Gondola and in 10 minutes and two lifts one finds oneself in the centre of the “Evasion Mont Blanc” ski area . 107 lifts and 400kms of pistes -not all interconnected despite the blurb
Megeve is über expensive and the pistes are groomed for the mega rich. It is a great family area and there are some good side and off piste opportunities.
Today brought empty pistes in great condition and some nice side piste powder.
We ignored the closed piste sign to ski back to Bettex- better taking the Gondola down till this is properly open
