Sunny and cold
The best laid plans gang aft agley………..
After snow early in the week it has been cold and sunny in the valley and on Thursday we headed to Flegere with touring gear. The intention had been to skin towards Lac blanc for an hour and hopefully have some powder on the ski back to the Trappe chair. It was pretty obvious as we sat on the Index chair that an extremely strong NE wind had destroyed the off piste. After the Floria drag things got worse. Plan aborted. A good morning though skiing perfectly groomed pistes-grippy corduroy. Every piste in great condition and the home run without any rocks or ice. Pretty unusual. Now to Friday
Weather – Temperature rising
Snow – Powder (mostly)
Les Contamines opened last weekend for two days but only re-opened today so the fresh snow from the beginning of the week was untouched. The webcams were looking great. Arriving a bit late for first lift (dog walk) we were confronted by two cars in the car park. Later in the day there were maybe 150 skiers on the hill.
It wasn’t perfect as the snow on southern aspects were badly affected by a crust-sun induced. Crap. North, north east and eastern aspects were great as were any slopes remaining in the shade. Contamines is a joy. Not just a family resort
Remember to validate your pass in St. Gervais (Bettex-in person or have a photo for those not present) or Megeve and if the area is busy park at the Gorge gondola. There is also a Randonnée ticket available for tourers without a pass.
With no snow due till Tuesday or Wednesday it is time to enjoy incredible piste conditions.
